THE GENERAL BELIEF IN ISLAM

THE EXISTENCE OF ALLAH

1. Allah is the TRUE and ALMIGHTY GOD whose existence are proven and acknowledge by every existing being [ 17:44 ]

ONENESS OF GOD IN THE BIBLE

Duetronomy 6:4; 4:35; Isaiah 45:21; 44:6; Jeremiah 23:24
Mark 12:29-31 and Romans 3:30

TAWHID IN THE HOLY QUR'AN

Tawhid means the oneness of Allah ( Surah 112 ) Tawhid seeks the pleasure of Allah by making his belief and
action go together. Belief without has no place in Islam.

Basic Attitudes of people hold toward God
The Concept of God

a. The Atheist says that there is no God.
b. The Agnostic holds that neither the existence of God nor the origin of the universe is known or knowable. The agnostic does not simply say " I do not know God " He makes the universe negative judgment that, " I cannot know if there is a God.
c. The Deist moves beyond the agnostics to believe that there is a God bit only in a 'limited ' sort of way. Deist believe that God created the universe and set it up to run perfectly precisely like a well-oiled machine or clock. After God got everything running properly, however, He truned His back on His creation and had no more to do with it. Therefore, the Deist believes that man cannot communicate. [ Deism was popular in England and America in the 17th and 18th centuries Many famous men such as Sir Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson were Deist.
d. The Theist is a person who accepts the idea of One God. Jews, Muslims and Christians, however the later believe in ONE God in Three persons in the Godhead .

What Are The Proof Of The Existence Og God ?

Over the years, men have argued about the existence of God byusing several basic approaches :

1. THE COSMOLOGICAL ARGUMENT insist that cosmos [world] have an explanation. This arguments says that the world could not simply have " just happened. " There must be a cause equal to its effect.

2. THE TELEOLOGICAL ARGUMENT is closely associated with the cosmological approach. Teleo means that the design of the universe implies that there was purpose or direction behind it and that someone must have designed it.

3. THE RATIONAL ARGUMENT points out that the world operates according to order and natural law and therefore there must be a mind behind this order. If the design of the universe were altered only slightly. For example, the earth now rotates on its axis in 24 hours at the rate of about 1,000 miles an hour. Why couldn't it rotate at the arte of 100 miles an hour ? If it did,
the earth days and nights would be ten times longer than they are now, with the result that the hot summer sun would burn vegetation and the long cold nights would freeze it. Do you see the point ? It is no accident that our days are 24 hours long.
There are countless other facts that are difficult to explain by chance. Even the position of the moon - 24, 000 miles away- is significant. If the moon were only 50,000 miles away, the tides of the ocean would be so huge that eventually all the mountains on various continents would be eroded away and there would be daily hurricanes.

4. THE ONTOLOGICAL ARGUMENT follows the idea that man can conceive the idea of perfection of God. Where does man get his idea of God, but from God Himself ? Studies by anthropologists show that man is incurably God-concious. This God-conciousness has often been corrupted and warped by the polytheism and idolatry, but the desire to know God is still there. The believers believes this desire is evidence for God. If God were not real and He had not placed in man a desire to know Him, man would have no need to seek God. In addition man would have no need to go such great effort to deny Him
as Atheist and agnostic do. In other words, if man did not have any real reason or cause within himself to believe that God
exists, man would make no fuss about it.

5. THE MORAL ARGUMENT holds that men has a built-in sense of right and wrong that cannot be accounted for except by
looking to the someone who created man and gave him this sense in the first place. As you can observe that people get into quarrels by appealing to some kind of standard of behaviour they expect the other person to know about. Whether the quarrel is major or minor, one party is trying to show that the other party that they were
wrong, there is no sense in trying to do this unless both parties are appealing to some sort of basic agreement as to what is right and what is wrong in the first place. The questions is, where did they get this sense of right and wrong. ? THE NAME OF GOD ( see The Personal Name Of God ) The name ALLAH, is the essential personal name of God. La
ilaha illallah would literally mean " There is no ilah [God] other than the One Great Being known by the name ' Allah. ' Allah is The One and the Most beautiful things we can think of are referable to Him. His names refer to His attributes which are like titles of Honor and Glory ( Yusof Ali # 2539 ).

The HOLY QUR'AN says:

" Allah! there is no god But He! To Him belong The most beautiful names. "[ 20:8 ]

THE PERSONAL NAME OF GOD

In The Holy Qur'an
In the story of Moses and in many places in the Holy Qur'an, the Great Being known by the name Allah which was already lost in the arena of the christian translations of the scripture was mentioned:
" Verily, I am Allah: There is no God but I: So serve thou Me ( only ), And establish regular prayer For My remebrance. "
[ 20:14 ]

In The Christian Scriptures

ALLELUYAH

In the book of Revelation 19:7, you can find the word Alleluyah and repeated several times in Psalms 146-150. It is derived
from " Allahu " and " Yah " [ a vocative and exclamatory particle in both Hebrew, Aramaic and Arabic meaning 'Oh ' or ' ! ']
and meaning Oh Allah.

TETRAGRAMMATON : YHWH ( Yahweh or Jehovah ? )

It is vividly striking that the Bible scholars of Jehovah's Witnesses and other denominations have no way of knowing exactly
which vowels of the Hebrew used along the consonants YHWH. To draw back on the sounds of the original Hebrew, the Arabic would be a great help to identify and correct the invented given sound of the Name. H.S. Miller says :

" The Arabic belongs to the branch of the Semitic language,... preserving original Semitics forms. It is a rich, simple, flexible language, and renders valuable help in the light given sounds, grammatical forms, and words with their meaning in connection with the Old Testament study. It is the languageof the Koran ... one of the principal language of the world. " [ General Biblical Intro. p.162 ]

In the booklet published by Jehovah's Witnesses, it says:

" In the Mysterious Name of YHWH page 74, Dr. M Reisel said that the vocalisation of the Tetragrammaton
must originally have been YeHuaH or YaHuaH. " [ The Divine Name p. 7 ]

YaHuaH is the nearest in Arabic i.e. YaHuWa meaning He is and exactly the same, in the first person " I AM " one of the
revealed names refer to His attributes. The Oxford Annotated Bible (RSV) explained : [ p.70 ]

" Actually YHWH is a third person form and may mean ' He causes to be .' The name does not indicate God's eternal being but His action and presence in historical affairs. "

It is common in the Old Testament that the consonant YHWH appeared with God ( Hebrew Eloah, Elah or Alah ) and hence the personal compound name is YHWH ( YHWH Eloah or Alah ) should rightly translated He is Alah. The Holy Qur'an do the same utterance :

" Say: He is Allah, " or " Qul Huwa Allah. "

BELIEF IN PROPHETHOOD ( RISALAH )

Risalah is the channel of communication between Allah and mankind. Since the beginning of Creation, Allah has sent His guidance for mankind through His selected people. These chosen people are called Prophets or Messengers. They taught the people of their time to obey and worship Allah alone. They taught guidance and trained the people to follow the way of Allah.
Prophets and Messengers were human beings. We should never refer to them as the Sons of God. " The Jews call 'Uzair a son of Allah, and the Christians Call Christ the Son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouth; ( in this ) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah's curse Be on them: how they are deluded away from the truth. " [ Qur'an 9:30 ]

Messengers To All Nations

Allah sents prophets and messengers to every nations at different times. It was necessary to send prophets at different times to bring forgetful human beings back to the right path.
" To every people ( was sent) A messenger: when their Messenger Comes (before them), the matter will be judged between them with justice, they will not be wronged. " [ Qur'an 10:47 ]

" But thou art truly a warner, and to every people a guide. " [ 13:7 ]

" And there never was a people, without a warner having lived among them ( in the past ). " [ 35:24 ]

Prophets Of Allah

According to the saying, the number of Prophets is one hundred and twenty four thousand. The Qur'an mentions only the twenty five (25) most prominent by name:

BELIEF IN ANGELS OF ALLAH

Who are the angels ?
What do they do ?
Can we see them ?
How are they different from man ?

Angels are a special creation of Allah. They have been created from divine light ( Nur ) to perform specific functions. Angels have been given the necessry qualities and powers to carry out their duties, but they do not have free will. They always obey Allah and can never disobey Him. Angels do what Allah command them. They are innocent servants of Allah's will. They help him to carry out the decision. We cannot see the angels unless they appear in human form. Angels can take any suitable form to do their duties. There is a host of angels in the kingdom of Allah. The prominent among them are : Jibrail ( Gabriel ) brought the revelation from Allah to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and to all otyher prophets.'Izrail - also called the angel of death ( malakul mawt) is responsible for ending ourlife. Israfil - will blow the trumpet at the time of the end of the world and the day of judgement. Others ( Maalaikat ) - are recording all that we do. They are called the respected recorders (Kiraman Katibin)
Not a single word we say goes unrecorded [ 50:18 ]

BELIEF IN THE BOOKS OF ALLAH ( see Why The Bible Is Not The Words Of God )

Allah's greatest favour to mankind is His guidance contained in the books of Revelation. A Muslim believes in all the revealed
books which are mentioned in the Qur'an. They are :
Taurat ( Torah of Moses )
Zabur ( Psalms of David )
Injil ( Gospel of Jesus )
* Qur'an ( revelaed to Muhammad PBUT )
( see: The Authenticity of Al Qur'an )

The Collection And Compilation Of The Qur'an

Each and every word of the Qur'an was recorded as soon as it was revealed by Allah to the Propeht through Angel Jibrail. The Prophet's secretary, Zaid Bin Thabit, used to record them exactly as the Propeht told him. He would read back to the Prophet what he had recorded. Many of the early Muslims memorised the Qur'an immediately after the verses were revealed. Some of the famous Huffaz (plural of Hafiz, a person who memorised the Qur'an ) are:

Mu'adh Ibn Jabal, Ubadah Ibn Samit Abud Darda, Abu Ayyub and Ubayy Ibn Ka'b

Shortly after the death of the Prophet in 632 CE., Umar suggested to Khalifah Abu Bakr that the Qur'an should be compiled
in one volume. The Qur'an was written down in pieces in order as they revealed. A committee was formed under Zaid Bin Thabit to gather the scattered material of the Qur'an into one volume. Great care was taken to compile the Qur'an exactly as it had been recorded during the time of the Prophet (PBUH). After care ful checking and rechecking the work was completed. During the Khalifah of Umar (RA), the copy was kept with Hafsah one of the widows of the Prophet. As the Islamic State expanded, people in various places recited the Qur'an in their local dialect and there arose a possiblity of confusion and misunderstanding. To avoid this, Khalifah Uthman ordered the preparation of one standard pronounciation of the Qur'an to be written in the dialect of the tribe of the Quraish. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was from the Quraish and it was felt that this was the right dialect for the recitation of the Qur'an. Zaid Bin Thabit, Abdullah Ibn Az-Zubair, Said Ibnul 'As and Abdur Rahman Bin Al- Harith were asked to prepare copies of Hafsah. Copies were prepared and they were checked with the original. Standard copies were the copies sent to different parts of the Islamic State. Not only copies sent, but a teacher was sent with them, to teach how to recite the Qur'an properly and correctly. This far-sighted action by Khalifah Uthman made the uniform recitation of the Qur'an. Two original copies from Khalifah Uthman time still exist today- one at Topkapi in Istanbul ,Turkey and the other at Tashkent (USSR). The National Library of Karachi, Pakistan has a photocopy of the Tashkent original.

BELIEF IN THE LAST DAY

On the Last Day, aslo known as the Day of Jugdment or Day of Resurrection ( QIYAMA), all mankind will be raised again to life nd judged according to their deeds. In Islam, death cannot be hastened nor delayed, but is set by a decree of Allah. Jannah ( Paradise) and Hell Fire are two everlasting created things that are already in existence. The people of Jannah, without doubt shall enter it on the Day of Judgment, and the people of Hell shall have to fall into it. Allah will remove from Hell those believers who entered it because of sins they committed, which were neither forgiven by Allah nor atoned for by good deeds in their lifetimes. On the day of Jugdment, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) shall be able to make the Greater Intercession for mankind, that Allah may give His verdict and let people depart the place of congregation. At this point Allah will permit him too, to intercede for a number of believers, that they may be admitted into Paradise. We affirm the fact that his intercession will also be for the disobedient among the believers. We affirm that the Messenger will intercede only for those for whom Allah permits it. [ Sahih Muslim Vol. 1 p.119 ]

Signs Of The Final Hour

There are signs of the Final hour, both major and minor, some of which Allah mentioned in His book, which are clearly explained by the Prophet (PBUH). Of the major ones are Beast of the Earth [ 27:82 ], the Descent of the Messiah, Issa son of  Maryam, from heaven to earth in Damascus, [ Bukhari Vol. 4 p.437] from whence he will rule in accordance with he Qur'an, break the cross, kill the swine and waive the Jizyah; the appearance of Al Dajjal and Gog and Magog; and the eruption of a fire in Aden which will drive the people to the land of Congregation { Muslim book 53-13 ] Of the minor signs of the Final Hour are the contraction of time, the prevalence of afflictions and bloodletting, the outnumbering of men by women, fight between the Muslims and the Jews [ Muslim Vol.4 p. 1510 ] and joining together in battle of the muslims and Nasara against infidels, followed by another fight between the Muslims and Nasara resulting in the defeat of the latter. [ Ibnu Majah 36/35 ] The Final Hour will not come until Rome is conqured, nor until the appearance at the end time, of Al Madhi, who is from the Ummah of Muhammad, who name is the same as the Apostle's name and whose name is the same as the Apostle's name, and whose father's name is Abdullah.

THE BELIEF IN PREDESTINATION

Predestination ( Qadar ), according to Islam means that llah has decreed all things from eternity to eternity. [9:51;7:78] Each man has the choice over much of what he does, but that God knows from the beginning what each man is going to do. [ The BIble Ps. 139; Isaiah 46:10; Hebrew 4:13]
